1Password announced 1Password for Agents on October 22, 2026. The platform is meant to let personal AI agents reach login screens, ask for a vault credential, and continue a task after the user approves, without the agent reading or storing the password, secret, or one-time code.

Background

Personal agents increasingly need authenticated sites to finish chores such as shopping, booking, and expense work. Past shortcuts included pasting a password into a prompt or taking over the session by hand. 1Password's CPO Aashish Tripathi, quoted by The Verge, said agents should do the job without getting permanent access to everything behind an account.

The approval step happens on the user's device, which The Verge compared to two-factor authentication. TechCrunch notes the launch landed the same day Axios reported that US banks were seeing more agent-driven activity in customer accounts. Banks interviewed by Axios urged customers not to hand usernames and passwords to third parties. 1Password's design keeps those values inside the vault and out of the model context.

Browserbase's partner post describes the same pattern for headless browser sessions: the agent requests a login, the user approves or denies in 1Password, 1Password fills and submits the password or OTP, then removes the filled value so the agent cannot read it afterward.

Reactions and Impact

Coverage from TechCrunch, The Verge, and IT之家 treated the product as a response to agents that need real logins. Independent hands-on reviews of the live integrations were still thin at writing time. Availability, platforms, and capabilities vary by partner, per 1Password's blog.
