Ask a coding agent for a landing page and you usually get the same one: centered hero, three feature cards, a gradient. Taste Skill is an attempt to break that habit. The repo, taste-skill (Leonxlnx/taste-skill), is an MIT-licensed set of Agent Skills that gives the agent an art direction, real pictures, and a real browser to judge its own output in. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents that support the Agent Skills format can install it.

npx skills add https://github.com/Leonxlnx/taste-skill

That one command installs the whole set. Add --skill "design-taste-frontend" if you only want the default skill.

Six-Step Workflow

v2.0.0 came out on October 14, 2026 (05:05 Beijing time). The README says the default skill grew out of a study of 247 curated sites. Every build follows the same six steps:

  1. Read the brief and list what only this client has.
  2. A script deals three of 20 researched directions; the agent picks one.
  3. Find the idea: one sentence tying the client's material to that direction.
  4. Build with real pictures and footage from open collections, credited.
  5. Check the page in a real browser at three widths and fail it on "slop."
  6. Review its own screenshots and fix the top three problems, up to three rounds.

This is not quick. The project estimates 30 to 45 minutes and a few hundred thousand tokens per build. Images come from open collections such as Wikimedia Commons, Openverse and the Met, restricted to public domain, CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA, with the credits placed on the page itself.

Installation and Requirements

Claude Code users can also go through the plugin marketplace: /plugin marketplace add Leonxlnx/taste-skill, then /plugin install taste-skill@taste-skill. Codex has a matching pair of codex plugin commands. The default skill needs Node 22+ and Chrome, Edge or Chromium. It uses no API keys and only goes online to find pictures. The project site is tasteskill.dev.

Skill Selection

Job Skill (install name)
New public page taste-skill (design-taste-frontend)
Improve an existing page redesign-skill (redesign-existing-projects)
Direction already decided soft-skill, minimalist-skill or brutalist-skill
Images first, then code image-to-code-skill, or the imagegen skills
Stricter variant for GPT/Codex gpt-tasteskill (gpt-taste)
Agent cuts output short output-skill (full-output-enforcement)

The default skill targets public-facing pages. For dashboards and product UI, the README sends you to minimalist-skill or soft-skill instead. Framework doesn't matter: React, Vue, Svelte and plain HTML all work. If you liked v1 or the dial-based versions, they remain installable under their own names. The same author also makes TasteCode, a free open-source desktop app with a built-in design agent.

It suits people building landing pages, marketing sites or portfolios with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, who would rather spend 30–45 minutes per page than ship placeholders and stock gradients.
