Muse is Meta's personal AI agent: an AI that takes actions for you — managing email and calendars, booking reservations and travel, tracking deals and budgets — instead of only answering questions. You chat with it in the Muse app on mobile or Mac, or directly in WhatsApp, and it keeps working in the background after you close the app. Muse Wonder, the frontier model Meta released on October 12, 2026, is the model family that Meta says will "soon power experiences in Muse."

If you searched for muse code or muse subscription, note that these are different products: Muse (the consumer agent) is free with a usage limit and has a paid upgrade, while Muse Code is Meta's terminal coding agent with its own four monthly plans. For Muse Wonder API prices, see our separate Muse Wonder pricing guide.

What Muse Does

According to Meta's Muse page (checked October 14, 2026):

  • Agent, not chatbot: given a task, Muse picks the skills it needs, browses the web, pulls information from connected apps and acts across multiple steps.
  • Muse Secure VM: each user gets a persistent, isolated Linux computer with a full browser that both you and the agent can use, so you can step in at any point.
  • Connectors: link email, calendar, Instagram and other apps; if a needed tool does not exist, Muse builds one.
  • Approvals: Muse asks before sensitive actions such as sending messages or making purchases; you can allow once, always allow or deny, and see an audit trail.
  • Privacy: logins sit in a credential store the agent cannot read, checkout uses one-time card numbers, and Meta says conversations are not shared with its ad systems. Meta's Muse privacy policy adds that use of your interactions for AI training can be switched off under Data controls.

How Muse Relates to Muse Wonder

Muse is the product; Muse Wonder is a model. Meta's Muse Wonder launch post (October 12, 2026) introduces the Muse Wonder series — Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full — and says:

  • Muse Wonder is available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code; Muse Wonder Full is available to Muse Code subscribers.
  • Muse Wonder "will soon power experiences in Muse, and will roll out first to subscribers." Meta does not give a date.
  • Features Meta highlights for agents — Active Memory (carrying context across conversations) and Active Focus (keeping at a hard task and checking in before important actions) — are exactly what a personal agent like Muse needs.

So today Muse Wonder is something developers can call directly, and consumers will meet it inside Muse later.

Muse Code: Meta's Coding Agent

Meta's help center describes Muse Code as "Meta Model API's terminal-based coding agent." You can pay for it per token with a Meta Model API key, or with a flat-rate subscription that works only through the Muse Code CLI while signed in with your Meta Model API account. Extra API keys you create are billed pay-as-you-go.

Muse Code plan Price What Meta lists
Everyday Usage $5/month Muse Spark, Muse Wonder and Muse Image; 10–50 prompts every 5 hours; voice mode; web search
High Usage $15/month Everything in Everyday; 5x the usage; more multimodal inputs
Power Usage $50/month Everything in High; most powerful Muse models incl. Muse Wonder Full; 20x usage
Maximum Usage $200/month Everything in Power; 80x usage

Subscriptions default to Contributor mode, which gives more usage in exchange for letting Meta train on your prompts, code and responses; you can turn it off. Benefits may vary by region.

Muse Subscription: Muse App vs Muse Code

A muse subscription can mean two things:

  • Muse (the agent app): Meta's FAQ says Muse "is available for free with a usage limit"; when you hit it you can upgrade to a paid subscription or wait for the limit to refresh. Meta's Muse page does not list a price, so we don't quote one.
  • Muse Code: the four plans above, managed through Subscriptions in Meta's Accounts Center.
