An Instagram Agent Skill is a community pack of Claude skills for drafting Instagram captions, Reels hooks, carousels, and weekly plans. It is not a Meta product and not an official Instagram agent. The two public Instagram skills packs that match this search are Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill (MIT, GitHub API snapshot on November 6, 2026: 5,094 stars and 1,042 forks) and sergebulaev/instagram-skills (MIT, same snapshot: 765 stars and 162 forks). Both are Claude Instagram skill bundles you install yourself. Nothing should go live until a person reads the draft and says yes.

What Instagram Agent Skill Means

Anthropic's own Skills overview defines a skill as a directory with a SKILL.md file, plus optional scripts and extra files. Claude sees each skill's name and one-line description first, then reads SKILL.md only when your request matches. Extra files open later if the instructions point to them.

The official docs also say custom skills work on several surfaces:

  • claude.ai: list and toggle them under Customize > Skills. Custom uploads need a Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, or Enterprise plan with code execution turned on.
  • Claude Code: filesystem folders in ~/.claude/skills/ (personal) or .claude/skills/ (project), or a plugin.
  • Claude API: skill_ids in the container, with the code execution tool.

None of those official skill types is named "Instagram Agent." The phrase Instagram Agent Skill in search results refers to third-party packs that happen to use Anthropic's skill format for Instagram writing.

A related pack from the same Jakeschincariol author is documented separately as Day Trader Skill. Another community skill explainer on AI Rank is Replica Skill. Those projects are not Instagram tools.

Public Instagram Skills Packs on GitHub

Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill ships thirteen skills. The README's one-line rule is: "Nothing gets posted until you say yes. These skills write. You post." It also says the pack is free, MIT licensed, and needs no signup or API key for the writing tools.

sergebulaev/instagram-skills ships nine skills for Claude Code and Codex. Creative Content Crafts publishes it. The README says every draft waits for your approval before anything publishes, you supply the image or video, and the skills write the words. An optional Publora path can schedule an already approved post for Business or Creator accounts. The default path is still a caption you paste into the Instagram app.

How to Install Instagram Agent Skill

Install only what you have read. Anthropic's Agent Skills overview says to use skills from trusted sources, or to audit every bundled file if the source is unknown, because a skill can include instructions and code. The consumer docs add that skills someone shares with you, or that you upload yourself, are not reviewed by Anthropic. Open the SKILL.md and the other files before you turn a skill on.

On claude.ai, the official path is Customize > Skills. Use Turn on for a skill you already have, or add a custom skill as a zip. A plugin's skills appear on the same list and follow the plugin's on/off switch.

In Claude Code, personal skills go in ~/.claude/skills/ and project skills go in .claude/skills/.

The Jakeschincariol README then lists these pack-specific routes:

  1. Paste the GitHub URL into Claude and ask it to install the skill, then confirm /ig-reel works.
  2. Clone the repo and copy skills/ig-* into ~/.claude/skills/, or into a project's .claude/skills/.
  3. Install it as a plugin: /plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill then /plugin install instagram-agent.
  4. Paste a single SKILL.md at the top of a chat. The README says you lose the five Python tools that power most of /ig-reel and /ig-human.

After that install, the same README asks you to fill templates/voice.md and copy it to ~/.claude/instagram/voice.md, because every skill in the pack reads that voice file.

The sergebulaev README lists several clients: a Codex plugin (codex plugin marketplace add sergebulaev/instagram-skills then codex plugin add instagram-skills@instagram-skills), Claude Code /plugin marketplace add sergebulaev/instagram-skills plus /plugin install instagram-skills@instagram-skills, "Add from GitHub" on claude.ai/code and Claude Desktop, and npx skills add sergebulaev/instagram-skills for agents that read SKILL.md files. Those steps come from the README, not from a live UI walkthrough on this page.

Skills in the Jakeschincariol Pack

The README table lists these slash commands:

Command README role
/ig-reel One idea into a Reel: three hooks from 26 formulas, scored, then a script, on-screen text, and a timed beat sheet
/ig-viral Find what is working in a niche and rank it by multiple over each account's own median
/ig-caption Write and lint a caption, including the first 125 characters the feed shows before "... more"
/ig-carousel Swipe-post cover, slide copy, and 1080x1350 files
/ig-story Daily story sequence and sticker jobs
/ig-profile Score a profile against a 12-part rubric out of 100, then rewrite in fix-first order
/ig-plan A week's posts, formats, times, and 10 accounts to engage with
/ig-human Humanizer: local scripts that clean and score a draft
/ig-comment Draft comments on other people's posts
/ig-reply Sort and draft replies under your own post
/ig-dm Keyword delivery, a first message, a collab pitch, and two follow-ups
/ig-repurpose Turn one video, podcast, or newsletter into a week of standalone Reels and carousels
/ig-audit Review what you already posted, ranked by outlier multiple and sends per reach

Five local Python tools run on your machine with no network, per the README: hook scoring, beat timing, caption linting, humanizing, and swipe-file ranking. The author tested the hook scorer on 74 YouTube Shorts hooks rather than Instagram Reels, and reported that it caught deliberately bad hooks well (AUC 0.83) but did not pick winners among a creator's own hits and misses (AUC 0.56, near a coin flip). The stated use is to kill obviously weak hooks, not to promise reach.

The same README says the caption linter treats the current hashtag cap as five per post, and attributes a cut from 30 to 5 to December 18, 2025. If Instagram later shows a different cap, Instagram is right.

Skills in the sergebulaev Pack

The nine skills named in that README are Caption Writer, Carousel Planner, Hook Extractor, Hashtag Strategist, Humanizer, Content Planner, Repurposer, Profile Optimizer, and Audience Insights.

They draft hooks that fit in the first 125 characters, plan carousels of up to 10 slides, size a 3-5 hashtag set, rewrite AI tells, build a weekly mix, turn writing from other platforms into Instagram-native copy, and audit a profile (including the 150-character bio). Audience Insights is documented as an optional read of public hashtag and profile stats through third-party Apify actors. That path has its own terms, and it is separate from writing a caption.

The README is explicit that Instagram does not allow text-only posts. The skills write words. You still provide the image or video.

Human Approval Before Any Instagram Post

Both packs tell you to review the draft. Treat that as required, not optional.

The Jakeschincariol README states that the skills do not post to Instagram. It says unofficial browser automation or third-party tools used to automate posting, commenting, following, or DMing violate Instagram's Terms of Use and can get an account action-blocked. Every skill in that pack is designed to end with a copy-ready block that you post yourself. The README names one exception Instagram already supports: keyword auto-replies in DMs through Instagram's own tools and approved partners, and only after someone comments first.

/ig-viral is described as a read you drive in your own browser at human speed. It does not ask for your password and does not log in as you. The README tells you not to scrape Instagram.

The sergebulaev default is the same idea: a draft you post in the app with your own media. That README also documents an optional Publora publishing API for Business or Creator accounts if you want a scheduled upload after you approve the text. Personal accounts are not supported on that path. If you use it, keep approval in the loop and stay inside Instagram's official publishing rules. This page does not walk through unofficial automation.

Neither README promises follower growth. Do not treat a hook score, a weekly plan, or a humanizer report as a guarantee that a post will travel.

How to Audit a Third-Party Skill

Do this before you turn a community pack on, especially one that can comment, draft DMs, or call outside services:

  1. Read every SKILL.md you plan to enable, plus any scripts it names.
  2. Look for network calls, file access, or instructions that do not match the stated purpose. Anthropic flags those patterns in its security notes.
  3. Prefer local, no-network writing tools until you understand a skill that talks to the internet.
  4. Keep secrets out of chat. API keys belong in local env files that are not committed.
  5. Leave any publish or browser connector on manual approval, not "always allow."
  6. If a skill's text and its scripts disagree, disable that skill until you understand the call path.

A skill is closer to installing software than to pasting a prompt. Third-party Instagram packs can be useful writing aids. They are still code you chose to run.

FAQ

Is Instagram Agent Skill an official Meta or Instagram product?

No. It is community Claude skill packing. Meta has a separate Content Publishing API for Professional accounts; that is not what these GitHub repos are.

How do I install an Instagram Agent Skill?

Follow Anthropic's Skills docs for the surface you use (claude.ai Customize > Skills, or Claude Code skill folders / plugins), then use the install block in the repository you actually cloned. Read the files before you turn anything on.

Do these skills post to Instagram by themselves?

The Jakeschincariol pack says they do not: they write, and you post. The sergebulaev pack defaults to the same copy-and-post flow, with an optional Publora schedule after approval for Business or Creator accounts.

Will an Instagram Agent Skill grow my account?

Neither README promises that. The Jakeschincariol author even reports that the hook scorer does not pick winners.

Are the packs free?

Both repositories are MIT licensed on GitHub. A paid Claude plan, and any third-party publishing or data tool you choose to connect, are separate.
