Sources: Anthropic pricing and Gemini API pricing. Gemini's output price includes thinking tokens, and its context cache also has a storage charge ($0.50 per million tokens per hour until the end of 2026). Haiku 5.5 cache writes cost extra ($0.125 for a 5-minute write in the lower tier). Gemini 3.8 Flash also has a free tier in the Gemini API; Haiku 5.5 does not have an equivalent free API tier, though new Anthropic accounts get small trial credits.

Haiku 5.5 Cost: Worked Examples

Haiku 5.5 is priced per request by prompt length: if a request's prompt (including cache reads and writes) is over 100,000 tokens, the whole request pays the higher rate. For the full rules, see our Claude Haiku 5.5 API pricing guide.

These are calculated illustrations at list price, with no caching, tools or batch discount:

Assumed request Claude Haiku 5.5 Gemini 3.8 Flash (intro) Gemini 3.8 Flash (2027)
10,000 input + 2,000 output $0.002 $0.015 $0.030
150,000 input + 2,000 output $0.080 $0.120 $0.240

One caution: the two vendors use different tokenizers, so the same text does not produce the same token count. Anthropic says its tokenizer for Claude 4.7 and later models produces about 30% more tokens for the same text than its earlier one. Measure token counts on your own prompts with each API before comparing bills.
