BimCraft is the BIM review and editing app in the CadCraft suite from The Data Design Group at getcadcraft.com/apps/bimcraft. It opens IFC building models (IFC 2x3 and IFC 4), lets you walk them in 3D, cut sections, edit properties, place library items, run clash and model checks, export schedules as CSV, and exchange review issues as BCF. Edits save back to IFC so other BIM tools can open the same file. Public builds shown on the product page: browser 0.7.1, desktop 0.7 inside CadCraft Studio. There is no separate BimCraft installer.

If you searched for BIMCraft download or install steps, start in the browser at getcadcraft.com/use/bimcraft, or install CadCraft Studio 0.7 and open BimCraft from its home screen.

Not ArtCraft CADCraft, and not IPedrax/BIMCraft

Two other “craft” hits show up in the same searches:

  • ArtCraft’s CADCraft is a CAD-and-drafting app in the storytold / getartcraft.com Crafting Apps suite (listed as in development on that catalog). It is a different product and company from CadCraft on getcadcraft.com. For the ArtCraft suite overview, see Get ArtCraft, PhotoCraft, EffectCraft.
  • IPedrax/BIMCraft is a separate open-source Rust project that describes itself as a clean-room take on the Autodesk Revit workflow, with MCP agent hooks. Its GitHub homepage field does not point at getcadcraft.com. CadCraft product pages link that suite’s BimCraft source to getcadcraft/bimcraft. Facts below follow getcadcraft.com BimCraft and that repository.

CadCraft’s own footer states the suite is independent and not affiliated with Autodesk or other named CAD/BIM vendors; product names appear only to identify those products.

Download and install paths

Path What you get
Browser Open use/bimcraft now. Product page lists browser build 0.7.1.
Desktop Install CadCraft Studio 0.7 (Windows, macOS, Linux) from Downloads. All eight CadCraft apps share one install; open BimCraft from Studio’s home screen.
From source Clone getcadcraft/bimcraft, run node devshell/serve.mjs (Node.js 20+; BUILDING.md also cites 20.19+ / 22 recommended), open the local URL. npm test runs tests.

Studio download page notes for version 0.7 (published October 25, 2026): early builds; Windows installer not code-signed yet; macOS disk image not signed or notarized yet; each file ships with SHA-256 on the page and in SHA256SUMS. Automatic updates are off—new versions come from the download page.

System lines from the BimCraft app page:

  • Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64); Studio bundles Edge WebView2; about 750 MB disk for every app together.
  • macOS: macOS 13.3 Ventura or later, Apple silicon or Intel, one universal disk image; uses the system web engine (Safari 16.4-era). Tested note: built as a universal image; not yet checked on a clean Mac or on an Intel Mac.
  • Linux: 64-bit x86_64; .deb wants WebKitGTK 4.1 (e.g. Ubuntu 22.04+); AppImage carries its own WebKitGTK.
  • Browser (planned minimums on the same page): current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari (oldest cited: Chrome/Edge 94, Firefox 93, Safari 16.4); 64-bit CPU; 8 GB memory target; WebGPU or WebGL 2.

Formats and IFC in short

Official formats table on the BimCraft page:

Format Support (as published)
IFC 4 Open, edit, and save (IFC 2x3 too)
DWG View in 2D and 3D
DXF View in 2D and 3D
BCF Clash and review issues in and out
CSV Schedules and quantities out

The same page also says RVT files show project information and a preview. Feature cards list multi-IFC open, property edit, library placement, sections and first-person walk, schedules/quantities, model checks, clash checks, version compare, and BCF.

IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) is buildingSMART’s open, vendor-neutral schema for exchanging BIM data for buildings and infrastructure, also published as ISO 16739. Official older releases commonly referenced in tools include IFC 2x3 (2.3.0.1) and IFC 4 (e.g. 4.0.2.1); buildingSMART’s IFC introduction page lists those alongside newer IFC 4.3. BimCraft’s published table covers open/edit/save for IFC 4 and IFC 2x3—not a claim about every IFC 4.x subtype.

How it sits next to Revit and Bonsai

Positioning only—no “which is better” ranking from untested use:

  • Autodesk Revit is commercial BIM software for designing, documenting, and coordinating building projects from a shared parametric model (drawings, schedules, and views stay coordinated). Autodesk’s product pages describe multidisciplinary AEC use and IFC among other interchange formats. CadCraft’s BimCraft page says: “If you model in Revit, BimCraft will feel familiar.” That is a familiarity claim from the vendor, not a feature parity matrix.
  • Bonsai (formerly known in the community as BlenderBIM) presents itself as free and open-source native IFC OpenBIM apps—Studio (Blender-based authoring), Viewer, and Web—with no proprietary format lock-in, per bonsaibim.org.
  • BimCraft (CadCraft) is one of eight CadCraft apps: browser + Studio desktop, IFC-centric open/edit/save, plus DWG/DXF view and BCF/CSV as above, Apache-2.0 source on GitHub.

For another open CAD-oriented project already covered on AI Rank (parametric CAD in Rust, not BIM/IFC), see SolidCraft GitHub.

License, pricing, and browser save rules

  • Source license for getcadcraft/bimcraft: Apache-2.0 (LICENSE in the repo; GitHub SPDX Apache-2.0). Live GitHub API at write time: about 160 stars, 35 forks, language JavaScript, homepage https://getcadcraft.com/apps/bimcraft.
  • CadCraft Pricing: Community is free (every app and feature, commercial work allowed, local files); optional owned license (pay-what-you-want once); Team Cloud Plan at $35/month per seat (or $350/year) adds cloud saving, sync, and version history.
  • Product copy: In the browser, saving will need a commercial license; exporting a copy is always free. Desktop apps save to local disk without a license. Cloud saving for browser apps is tied to the Team Cloud Plan on the pricing page.

Roadmap line on the app page: 208 steps in 0.8. Treat public builds as early software; read download notices before installing unsigned packages.
